Artist statement:

Bruno Soulière's first experiences with art began as a child. His childhood dream was to be an astronaut, but when he realized that this dream might not be attainable, he decided to create the moon for himself using paint and canvas. The desire to create fantastical spaces has been a reoccurring theme throughout Bruno’s work as an artist.

With influences ranging from the Industrial Revolution to the works of Alfred Pellan, Matthew Barneys, and Mars One, Bruno’s work incorporates industrial materials like concrete, wood, wire, and pipes with traditional artistic media.

Inspired by backdrops from 1960s sci-fi films, Bruno most recent work invites the viewer to become part of the setting. Entitled Insta-Bar, this project centers on the concept of recreating the atmosphere of a social environment through the installation of an artificial space.

Using large-scale canvas mounted on carpentry to cover existing architecture, combined with food, drink, and a curated program of live music and performance art, Insta-Bar brings people together in a new, unconventional environment.

“Playing on the natural wanderlust of human nature, Insta-Bar creates a fantastical world within a comfortable, pre-existing setting. Entering the Insta-Bar is like arriving in a new country, where the sights, smells, and sounds are foreign, thus heightening the vistor’s experience,” says the artist.

See y'all there!
